Description
Treating medically complex patients is daunting.
Between the maze of lines and tubes stabilizing vitals, rapidly shifting medical status, increased confusion, and constant slew of exams and meds… You’re constantly navigating new challenges.
Knowing HOW to initiate treatment, WHAT assessment and interventions to use, and WHEN to progress or regress the plan of care is essential to achieve the functional goals you established.
Here’s the good news, we teamed up with Dr. Kirsten Davin, OTD, OTR/L, ATP, SMS, to make treating medically complex patients, simple.
With over 20 years of direct acute care experience, Dr. Davin will introduce advanced learning designed for all practice levels. This training will provide you with an updated knowledge base to make appropriate, on the spot decisions within acute care environments.
You’ll learn to successfully integrate evidence-based assessment and treatment tools into an existing plan of care, and adjust or accommodate interventions across the hospital stay through transition to step down units, skilled rehab facilities, and home!

Objectives
- Determine the critical elements of analysis and assessment in mobilizing medically fragile or compromised patients.
- Construct an appropriate plan of care for patients who present with a critically ill cardiac, neurological, or respiratory diagnosis.
- Distinguish the characteristics, similarities of, and differences between, patient level of acuity and methods to implement successful therapeutic interventions to restore function, participation in occupation and independence with each.
- Demonstrate proficiency selecting appropriate outcome tools and measures for assessment of the acute or critically ill patient.
- Assess several approaches to manage patients with challenging behaviors and design effective techniques to overcome cognitive barriers and encourage meaningful patient participation with therapeutic activities.
