Improve your cardiovascular assessment skills including auscultation of heart and lung sounds, ECG warning signs, assessment of jugular venous distention, and consideration of hemodynamic data. Karen M. Marzlin is an Acute Care Clinical Nurse Specialist practicing in inpatient medical cardiology within a large cardiology practice. Karen has over 26 years cardiovascular and critical care experience with 10 years of her career dedicated to management and cardiovascular program administration. Karen has focused clinical expertise in the area of heart failure care and leads a heart failure steering committee within her practice. She has a passion for creating excellence at the point of care and this is evident in her clinical leadership and mentoring practices. She has developed a novel approach to nursing competency assessment that recognizes the expertise of bedside clinicians. In addition to maintaining a part-time clinical practice, Karen is a co-owner of Key Choice, a training and consulting business; and Cardiovascular Nursing Education Associates (CNEA), a continuing education business. She collaborated on the publication of Cardiovascular Nursing Practice: A Comprehensive Nursing Resource Manual published by CNEA in 2007. Karen speaks nationally on a wide variety of cardiovascular, critical care, and leadership topics. Her presentations are energetic, engaging and empowering.
