Many baby food companies and companies that create and sell utensils for infants and children put info re feeding milestones on their packaging – but are they correct? (Hint – sometimes yes, sometimes, no). While developmental milestones can help to identify children who are in need of support, they’re not always reflective of individual, family or cultural differences. This seminar will help clinicians to understand feeding/swallowing development not in the context of prescribed sequences but instead, in the context of readiness signs and opportunities for practice.
When feeding difficulties have been identified, clinicians will be able to dig deeper to find the cause(s) of the difficulties via a thorough family-centric assessment process with a goal of implementing a management plan that includes treatment strategies that are not only based in evidence, but also reflect family needs and preferences.
