Description

Our role in providing reproductive counseling and options has been impacted with new and changing legislation. Today it is vital that providers know the options for safe and effective birth control. In the presentation you will learn the contraceptive methods in the past, why they worked or not, current options and why you would select one over another, and what is in the pipeline. Our women and families depend on getting the most accurate and up to date information from the most reliable source. Become that provider that is smarter than Google. You will be armed with information and tools to help you and your patients understand which contraceptive is a better choice and why.

Shelagh Larson, DNP, APRN, WHNP, MSNC, IF FAANP, is a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) caring for women across the lifespan for over 18 years. She has dedicated her career to advocating, educating, and caring for her patients and profession. Dr. Larson earn her BSN from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and then, after several years in practice, she earned her MS at Texas Woman’s University and became a certified WHNP and then a National Certified Menopause Provider. In 2017 she founded the JPS APP council and served as the first non-physician on the Acclaim Medical Board. The next year, she founded the JPS Menopause and Sexual Health Clinic that is still thriving today. In 2018 Dr. Larson earned her DNP from TWU and was granted Fellows status in the International Society of the Study of Women’s Sexual health (ISSWSH) in 2022. In June of June 2023, she was honored with the title of Fellow in the AANP. Dr. Larson currently is serving as Texas State Liaison for the AANP and previously served on the board the National Associations of NP in Women’s Health. At the state level she served on the Texas NP Association board for 10 years and awarded the TNP Presidents Award in 2021. Dr. Larson has over 110 presentations nationwide on subjects pertaining to women’s health. She has numerous publications and podcast recordings.
