Mike received a master’s degree from the University of Utah in Exercise and Sports Science with an emphasis in sport psychology. He then went on to receive another master’s degree from Argosy University Phoenix in professional counseling after two years in their doctorate program for clinical psychology. He is currently a licensed professional counselor in the State of AZ and a supervisor as well. He has also received licenses to facilitate the work of the Arbinger Institute which focuses on relationships, stopping blame, how to transform and resolve conflict and teaching the power of choice and is a certified daring way facilitator (CDWF) which comes from the research work from Dr. Brene Brown on shame resilience, the power of vulnerability, living in a place of worthiness, and the ability and importance of connection. Mike is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professional Foundation (IAEDP), the Residential Eating Disorder Consortium (REDC) and the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED). He has also received training on Pia Mellody’s model of Post Induction Therapy training and has received training in ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapy from Dr. Richard Schwartz.
Mike is currently the Executive Director at The Meadows Ranch, which is a primary eating disorder treatment center that works with girls and women from the ages of 8 to 80 and has IP, RTC, and PHP levels of care. Mike has worked in the mental and behavioral health field since 2001. Prior to his becoming the Executive Director at The Meadows Ranch he worked for 13 years as the director of a residential treatment center for girls ages 13-19. There, he was the program director, clinical director, and executive director. When looking at behavioral health Mike believes in a total wellness approach. One needs to look at the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the person to make lasting changes. Mike’s background compliments his philosophy when working with individuals as he has been a personal fitness trainer, was a college athlete, and mental coach for elite and Olympic level athletes in his private practice. As director of the girl’s program, he developed a variety of workshops and seminars working with over 2000 thousand families and students from around the world. He has extensive experience with eating disorders, depression, ADHD, anxiety, low self-esteem, shame, defiance, body image, substance abuse, self-harm, addiction, conflict in relationships, and trauma.
Mike is a sought after presenter/speaker on various topics such as eating disorders, shame resilience, neuro-therapy (brain and thoughts), family systems, tech addiction, suicide, marriage, communication, leadership, forgiveness, blame cycle, relationship building, relapse prevention, personality types, power of habits, and anxiety. Mike has appeared on the award winning T.V. show Dr. Phil and The Doctors on CBS several times as an eating disorder expert.
