Dr. Marta A. Alquijay received her PhD in clinical psychology, with a specialization in multicultural/community mental health in 1993. She has been a licensed psychologist for nearly 30 years. Dr. Alquijay was previously program head for the children’s system of care at the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. She is currently a full-time consultant, helping non-profit, government and private agencies develop, implement and evaluate mental health programs focusing on improving the lives of children and their families in underserved communities. She helped implement a family preservation program in the Pico Union area of Los Angeles, as well as a mental health program which provided free services to recent immigrants and trained graduate students. Dr. Alquijay is the lead clinical consultant for the countywide implementation of the Los Angeles Neurofeedback Pilot, which was launched in 2020 with the support of the Pritzker Family Foundation.

Maribel Mejia, PhD's Profile

Dr. Mejia, a native Angeleno, has a passionate commitment to serving and improving the lives of the most vulnerable and underserved children and families living in Los Angeles County. She is dedicated to further expanding services that best meet the needs of the community. Dr. Meja holds a PhD in clinical psychology with an emphasis in multi-cultural community mental health from the California School of Professional Psychology.

In her role as Chief Operating Officer of the Violence Intervention Program (VIP) Community Mental Health Center, Inc. Dr. Mejia is responsible for administrative and facilities management, information technology, human resources management, and other administrative operations. She oversees all financial operations of the agency, including accounting, reporting, audit, and contract management functions, and manages the VIP CMHC operating budget of approximately $12 million per year. She also creates and implements business practice policies and procedures, oversees management of personnel, including recruiting, hiring, promoting, discharging, training, and productivity. As the liaison with LA County Department of Mental Health contracting officials, Dr. Mejia is experienced and knowledgeable about county systems, policies, and procedures. Dr. Mejia is a licensed clinical psychologist with 24 years of experience working with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, physical abuse and child sexual abuse.

Sebern Fisher, MA, LMH, BCN, is an internationally-recognized expert on the use of neurofeedback in the treatment of developmental trauma and best-selling author of Neurofeedback in the Treatment of Developmental Trauma: Calming the Fear-Driven Brain. She has been working with traumatized people for over 35 years and has integrated Neurofeedback and psychotherapy in her treatment of developmental trauma in adults and adolescents for the past 20 years.

Prior to adopting Neurofeedback, Sebern was the clinical director of a residential treatment program for severely disturbed adolescents for 15 years. While there, she introduced the understanding of the impact of attachment rupture and was the first to implement DBT in a residential setting.

Sebern consults and trains on the integration of Neurofeedback and therapy, nationally and internationally.
