Description
This session provides specific and realistic intervention strategies to address common impairments in the aging adult, illustrating how to integrate the latest theoretical studies into everyday practice through a series of case progressions. In each case, we will explore how primary impairments and outcome measure results are integrated into the development of the plan of care to progress evidence-based interventions through a variety of settings. Video cases of different patient presentations will focus on aspects of turning and reactive balance training, aerobic conditioning, and strengthening.

J.J. Mowder-Tinney, PT, PhD, NCS, CSRS, CEEAA, received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder and her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from University of Miami in Florida. She completed her doctorate in physical therapy at NOVA Southeastern University. She has over 20 years of experience in a multitude of clinical settings with the majority of experience with people with neuromuscular deficits. She is certified as a clinical specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). She also has extensive training and has earned her Certified Stroke Rehabilitation Specialist (CSRS) from the American Stroke Association and her Certified Exercise Expert in Aging Adults (CEEAA) from the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy. She is currently the Chair and Associate Professor at Nazareth College in the physical therapy department. She teaches the Neuromuscular series that incorporates the onsite pro-bono clinic. She has conducted nationwide seminars on the Treatment of Patients with Neurological deficits, Spinal cord injuries, Balance Challenges, and Parkinsons Disease. She received the Excellence in Neurologic Education Award by the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy in 2017.
